Ad firm directors held for software piracy,lewd videos

The Pune police have arrested the directors of an advertising firm for allegedly using pirated software and storing obscene videos on computers in their company located in in Aundh.

The Pune police have arrested the directors of an advertising firm for allegedly using pirated software and storing obscene videos on computers in their company located in in Aundh.

On a complaint registered by an anti-piracy firm,Manish Suresh Keswani (34) and his brother Anand Suresh Keswani (29),residents of Baner Park society and directors the firm,Mak Media & Creations Pvt. Ltd located in the same building,were arrested on Monday evening after a raid on the premises.

They were booked under section 292 (keeping obscene material) and section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code,section 65,67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act,2000 and sections 63(b),64 of the Copyright Act,1957.

Yogesh Sadashiv Jagdale (30) of Thane,the field executive officer of Perfect Anti-piracy Firm,had lodged the complaint at Chaturshringi police station against the firm.

Jagdale said various software companies had contacted his firm. “A client informed us Mak Media & Creations Pvt. Ltd is using pirated Coreldraw. We passed on the information to Pune police and sought action. Accordingly,the Chaturshringi police conducted a raid on Mak Media & Creations Pvt. Ltd at Baner Park around 6 pm on Monday. About 15 to 20 employees of the firm were present during the raid,” Jagdale said.

Police Sub Inspector Manisha Dhamne,investigating the case,said they seized three computers from the firm. “We found that the firm did not have the licence to use Coreldraw. They were using pirated software. We also found obscene video clips stored in computers,which is also an offence. The Keswani brothers were arrested as they are the directors of the firm,” said Dhamne.

Police produced the suspects in court on Tuesday. Judicial Magistrate (first class) P K Deshpande allowed police to take them into their custody till July 1.

The police said Keswani brothers had been running the advertising firm for the last few years. Investigation is on to know from where and how the suspects procured the pirated software. Police are also probing to find if more people are associated with the crime.
