A drug addict allegedly killed a migrant labourer and injured three others at Bhinder Kalan village in Dharamkot sub-division of Moga district. The murder came to light on Friday morning.

SHO Jasvir Singh said the labourers had come recently from Bihar for sowing paddy and the youth who killed them was a Dalit and belonged to this village.

The deceased has been identified as Shakar Lal, a resident of Sitamarhi district in Bihar, while the injured are Ram Babu, Jai Prakash and Om Shankar, who too had come from the same district. The injured have been sent to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital.

A criminal case of murder and causing fatal injuries has been registered against the accused, who has been identified as Gurdev Singh.

The SHO said, "The motive behind this murder was loot, as villagers have told us that this youth is a drug addict and a bad element. No one in the village talks to this youth. The labourers were staying at the farm of Mehar Singh and were sleeping outside in the open when they were attacked. The youth left his blood-stained clothes behind, wore the clothes of the migrants and ran away. He used a sharp-edged weapon to commit the crime."
