The sudden closure of Super 30, Bihar’s effort to groom poor students to crack the IIT entrance, has perplexed all. Although the move seems to be a result of professional rivalry between private coaching institutes, it is really the result of the clash in the Bihar Police Headquarters.
According to sources, the Police HQ is at present divided into two groups—one led by DGP Ashish Ranjan Sinha and the other by ADGP (Headquarters) Abhyanand. Clashes between the two groups have intensified in recent times and has cast its impact on the law and order situation, say sources. The sudden rise in incidents of crime in Bihar is also being attributed to this standoff.
The famous Super 30 institute, which extended free boarding and coaching to poor students to prepare for the IIT entrance exams,
was run by a local mathematician Anand Kumar and
Abhyanand.
Three successful students of Super 30 were lured by another coaching institute and presented before Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who felicitated them. Those close to Abhyanand claim that the DGP was behind this incident. Though Abhyanand had prior information that his students were being lured by some other institute, he got upset when the Chief Minister felicitated them without verifying their credentials.
“Super 30 was not a business for me like all other coaching institutes. My mission failed when three of my students were bought off by a professional coaching centre. And so, I decided to close down Super 30,” said the police officer said. Although Abhyanand refrained from directly blaming it on his colleagues, he indicated that the Police HQ also had a role to play in the incident.
