  • With the application process for admissions to Delhi University winding up, the university has now issued a notification for the registration of wards of Kashmiri migrants.

Admission through this quota does not take place with the general admissions process, since this quota is ‘over and above’ other reserved categories of the university.

“This reservation quota is over and above other reservation quotas like SC, ST and OBC. Admission through this quota is independent of the university’s admissions process,” said G S Tuteja, Deputy Dean, Students Welfare.

In spite of this quota being available, the number of seats falling under it is extremely low.

University guidelines do not permit any college to grant admissions to more than three students under this quota and must have at least one seat each in all the three streams: Humanities, Commerce and Science.

Registration process would be centralised and would take place between July 1 and 3 from 10 am to 1 pm, while notification and allotment of courses and colleges would be out on July 9.

For registration, applicants can get the prescribed form from Room no. 220 of the Academic Branch-1 at the new administrative block of Delhi University.

Candidates are required to submit the certificate of registration as a Kashmiri migrant, proof of property in Kashmir and proof of current residence in Delhi along with their applications, apart from other regular documents.

For ignorants like Mr. HarryBy: Abhi | 04-Jul-2009 Reply | Forward Well, it is too easy for people like Harry who do not know an iota of the history / problems in Kashmir and the Kashmiri Migrants in particular to use the words like Irritating etc. The word used here is not Immigrant but Migrant. These people had to flee their homeland and stay in refugee camps in their own country for the last 20 years just because the Indian Army / Government was UNABLE to protect them from the Terrorists and the foreign Mercenaries. These people could have opted to stay there had they also started supporting these anti-India activities. But because they couldn't do so and they did support India in a land where around 85% of the population was (and is) anti India, they had to flee and those who did not got mercilessly killed / raped / massacred. So, it is no obligation that the Indian government is giving them a few seats over and above the already existing ones.

The words you use are most irritatingBy: Hary Nambiar | 22-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward It is most irritating to read the words the government and the press use. Is Kashmir a foreign sovereign nation? Are those people IMMIGRANTS? If that is so, why we are spending crores and crores defending that territory? Why are we allowing our young soldiers to martyr?
