Chandigarh, September 12: The Chandigarh Administration has constituted a state-level committee for protection and maintenance of the centrally protected archeological heritage and for close coordination with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

The committee comprises Secretary (Culture) as Chairman, UT Chief Architect, Chief Engineer, Director (Tourism) and Director (Museum) as its members. Principal (Chandigarh College of Architecture) Prof Rajnish Wattas and Prof Kiran Joshi will be the experts in the committee.

The committee will look into various issues including preventing encroachments in and around the monuments with the help of the state and district administration and change the land in the name of ASI on priority basis by issuing directions to the concerned departments.

The committee has also been asked to obtain necessary permission from the ASI for any development work within the prohibited and regulated areas of centrally protected monuments and keep away from any conflicting situation.
