Governor K Sankaranarayanan urged the state government Tuesday to take effective measures for water management in view of the drought in Marathwada, Western Maharashtra and North Maharashtra.
CM Prithviraj Chavan, minister for water supply and sanitation Laxman Dhoble and minister for higher education Rajesh Tope had called upon the governor to apprise him of water scarity and drought in the state.
Sankaranarayanan said the ministers for water supply, social justice, women and child welfare and other departments concerned should meet regularly to coordinate and review steps taken to tackle the situation.
He asked the government to take special care to address concerns of marginalised sections, SCs and STs in tribal sub-plan areas. The governor said supply of food grain through the public distribution system should be strengthened and regularly monitored.
