Advani: Will contest LS polls from Gujarat

Amid feeble demand for L K Advani’s projection as the party’s prime ministerial candidate,as against the vociferous clamour for Gujarat CM Narendra Modi’s claim

Amid feeble demand for L K Advani’s projection as the party’s prime ministerial candidate,as against the vociferous clamour for Gujarat CM Narendra Modi’s claim, the BJP patriarch on Tuesday indicated that he was not going to hang his boots as yet and will contest the next Lok Sabha elections from Gujarat.

A party MP present in the BJP parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday confided that Advani gave this indication while intervening during a remark made by Sumitra Mahajan,a party MP from Indore.

“I am not going to contest from Indore. You will contest from there. We settled in Gujarat (after Partition) and remain Gujarati,” Advani quipped jovially, chiding Mahajan for making public statements in local media that she will vacate her seat for Advani in the next Lok Sabha election,a party MP confided.

Other party MPs present in the meeting corroborated the sequence of events and Advani’s remarks.

“The sum and substance of his remark was that he remains a Gujarati and will contest next elections from Gujarat,” confided another MP.

A source claimed that some party MPs from Gujarat supported his assertion, but refused to identify the MPs who supported Advani.
