Identifying Afghanistan and western Pakistan as one of the most dangerous parts of the world, special US envoy for Af-Pak has said that the region poses a great threat to not only the United States, but also India and Western Europe.

"Western areas of Pakistan remain a clear and present danger to everyone not only in the United States, but in Western Europe, in Pakistan itself, in India, and elsewhere throughout the region," Special US Envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke told the CNN in an interview.

Asserting that Obama Administration's commitment to Afghanistan remains undiminished, Holbrooke said, "We remain committed to the core objectives of defeating and dismantling al-Qaeda, of helping strengthen civilian democratic rule in Pakistan, of strengthening the Afghan people's government and its security forces."

Holbrooke, who has not visited Afghanistan since the August 20th presidential elections, said he will attend the inauguration of Hamid Karzai's presidency for the second term.

Terming the recently concluded Pakistan trip of the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as incredible, he said, "This was a very important trip in which we committed ourselves to much greater support of Pakistan's democratic institutions and the economy in Pakistan, with particular attention to energy."

Two choices for India for tackling AfPak threat.By: Billy P Domes | 10-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Evenn if Holbrooke doesn't say so, it should be obvious to for India that Afghanistan and Western Pakistan pose a grave threat to this country. India has two choices before it, it either has to work more closely with the US to defeat the forces which are a threat to India also, or to formulate an independent policy which would enable it to effectively tackle and neutralise this growing threat.
Af-Pak threatBy: Hero Vaz | 10-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward If the Paki WMDs and the sources of drug money are knocked out, peace will come to the region very fast, especially because India will be able to openly join the operation against the Taliban and Al Qaeda and, at the same time, keep the Pakis at bay.
