New Delhi: After chronicling its history in a coffee-table book, the Delhi Metro is now set to come up with a museum showcasing the same. Construction work for the museum has already begun at the Patel Chowk station.

The location of the museum — to be inaugurated in a month’s time—has been carefully chosen. “There is a parking facility available at the station and it is also centrally located. Considering its accessibility, we chose this station,” said Anuj Dayal, Chief PRO, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

“The Metro museum will house photographs, newspaper archives, models of trains, curios, books and audio-visual films explaining the history of the Delhi Metro. A replica of the Metro is also being developed for the museum,” he said.

The low-cost project will be handled completely by the DMRC. “All planning and construction is being handled by the DMRC,” Dayal said.

The DMRC also has plans of setting up a bigger museum soon. “We are looking at setting up a bigger museum at some other location. We have already applied to the Government for land,” said Dayal.
