New Delhi: After days of internal consultations, the CPI(M) has finally made up its mind to ally with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu in the next general elections, bolstering its efforts to form a non-Congress, non-BJP electoral alternative.

The decision is expected to get the seal of approval of the Politburo which meets here over the weekend. The CPI has already decided to join hands with the AIADMK.

Top sources in the CPI(M) said the electoral strategy to be adopted in both Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh would be finalised at the Politburo meeting.

Though differences of perception exist between the CPI(M) and AIADMK on several issues, including on the Ram Sethu controversy, the exigencies of electoral politics have driven the Left parties to tie up with Jayalalithaa.

Both the CPI(M) and CPI have also resolved their differences on the electoral strategy to the adopted in Andhra Pradesh.

While the CPI(M) has already decided to ally with the TDP, the CPI was dilly-dallying after its state unit expressed the wish to go with Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam.

The CPI central leadership finally prevailed over the state unit and last week decided to go with the TDP.

The CPI(M) views the TDP as a natural ally and both the parties have already been campaigning jointly on several issues against the UPA Government.

With both the AIADMK and TDP coming on board, the Left parties hope to make their presence felt in all south Indian states. It has already tied up with H D Deve Gowda’s JD(S) in Karnataka.

i do not think Jayalalitha is a fool to form a third front with communists (those who enjoy the best without any responsibility), deva gowda(a liability). As far as Naidu is concerned, he was the one to get the maximum advantage during NDA's regime. One would consider him senile if he joins hands with these liabilities.
