After daughter’s arrest,Karuna to rethink UPA ties

Kanimozhi was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail after a special CBI court rejected her bail plea.

Upset over the arrest of Kanimozhi in 2G scam,DMK chief M Karunanidhi said he was in a position like that of any father whose daughter faced a similar situation for no fault of hers and said the party general council would decide on future ties with Congress.

“I am in a position like any other father who has a daughter and was arrested for no fault of her,” 87-year-old Karunanidhi told reporters.

Emerging from a meeting with senior DMK leaders at his and Kanimozhi’s CIT Colony residence,he said he would consult legal experts on moving the Delhi High Court for securing bail for her.

Asked whether the party’s ties with Congress would remain intact,Karunanidhi, avoiding a direct reply, said his party would have good relations with all parties.

On whether today’s development would have an impact on the future relations between the two UPA partners,he said his party’s General Council alone could take a decision. “As and when necessary, its meeting will be convened. “I cannot take a decision on my own on this.”

Replying to another question,he ruled out his immediate visit to Delhi.
