26/11 suspect Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal has allegedly told Mumbai Police Crime Branch officers that after he evaded the police in the Aurangabad arms haul case in May 2006,he flew from Dhaka to Karachi on a Pakistani passport under the alias Saeed that was provided by a terror operative in Bangladesh.
In a significant disclosure,Ansari has also allegedly said he was frisked away from the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi and did not have to go through any immigration formalities.
According to Crime Branch officers,in May 2006,when Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad officers were trailing Ansari for his role in the Aurangabad arms haul case,he had managed to give pursuing police jeeps the slip at Chandwad and escaped to Malegaon.
He told us that he escaped to Malegaon and then caught a bus back to Aurangabad. He claimed that he spent the night in a mosque there. The next day,he got in touch with a man and left for Kolkata by train. After having arrived in West Bengal,Ansari said he crossed the border from Benapur in West Medinipur district, said a Crime Branch officer, who did not wish to be named.
He told us that the passport was given to him a week after he arrived in Dhaka. The alias of Saeed was used. Ansari claimed that this was the first fake passport he was given, said the officer.
In his statement to the Crime Branch,Ansari allegedly said he boarded a Pakistan International Airways flight to Karachi and was frisked away from the airport without going through immigration.
Ansari said after he arrived in Pakistan,he did odd jobs and also married a woman there. It was in August 2008 that he was called to teach the 26/11 attackers Hindi, said the officer.
Ansari, who was deported to India from Saudi Arabia, travelled to Riyadh on a Pakistani passport issued under the alias Riyasat Ali. This second Pakistani passport issued to him allegedly stated that he belongs to Sheikhupura in Pakistans Punjab province.
