After HC order, govt hands over autopsy report to family

Acting on the instructions issued by the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Friday, the state government handed over a copy of the postmortem report of Dr Y S Sachan to his family.

Acting on the instructions issued by the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Friday, the state government handed over a copy of the postmortem report of Dr Y S Sachan to his family.

The order was made by a vacation bench comprising Shabihul Hasnain and Justice Vedpal on an application moved by senior advocate Kamini Jaiswal in which she sought a CBI inquiry into the death of Dr Sachan and also a second postmortem by an independent panel of doctors, preferably, from All India Institute of Medical Sciences,Delhi.

Jaiswal told the bench that contrary to the statement made by Advocate General Jyotindra Mishra on Thursday, the family members of Dr Sachan have said that they were not present during the postmortem. An affidavit from Sachan’s wife Malti and brother R K Sachan in this regard was presented to the court.

On Thursday, the court had refused to order second autopsy following a statement of AG stating that the postmortem Sachan was conducted by a board consisting of five doctors in the presence of the family members. The bench today observed that the fresh application prima facie raised a very piquant situation. “The AG is the most respected member and a statement made by him before the court has to be respected and trusted. However, there is possibility that the information given to him by the officers may or may not be correct.’’ The next hearing is scheduled for July 18.
