After homing in on govt,Swamy writes to PM for a ‘safe house’

Highlighting heightened threat to life,Swamy requests for government home in Central Delhi.

Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy, whose plea in the 2G case in the Supreme Court is behind many of the government’s troubles, has sought a “safe” government accommodation for himself somewhere in central Delhi.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, dated August 23,Swamy has said that following the success of his petition in the 2G case and his “constructive views published in a newspaper on Islamic terror”,there was a heightened threat to his life.

“This matter is compounded by the fact that I live in Nizamuddin (East) which is easily accessible from any side not only to Congress workers but also radical Islamic elements residing across the road in Nizamuddin (West),” Swamy has written.

He has requested the PM to allot him an ‘AB-type’ accommodation from the general government pool in prime Delhi areas such as Pandara Road,Mathura Road or Zakir Hussain Marg.

“Discretion may be exercised by you and not by any delegated authority or minister who might not have the political will to do the needful,” he has said.

The “constructive views” on Islamic terror he has talked about could refer to an article he wrote in July after the bomb blasts in Mumbai, saying Muslims who do not acknowledge “their Hindu ancestry” should be debarred from voting.

The Prime Minister’s Office is learnt to have referred the matter to the home ministry. When contacted by The Indian Express,Swamy refused to comment.
