Under scrutiny of the Delhi Lokayukta and the High Court over illegal constructions at their houses,Assembly Deputy Speaker Amrish Gautam and Labour Minister Ramakant Goswami have agreed to demolish such structures.

On Tuesday,Gautam filed an undertaking with the Lokayukta saying he will demolish all illegal construction at his house in Khichripur,East Delhi, that the Delhi Master Plan-2021 does not allow.

Municipal records submitted with the Lokayukta show that construction spread over 35.58 sqm on the second floor of his house is illegal and has to be demolished.

“As far as the non-compoundable portion of the said property is concerned,I,hereby, undertake to demolish the same in case the development norms pursuant to the Master Plan-2021 do not permit the said construction,” Gautam’s undertaking read.

In a similar assurance given to the Lokayukta last week,Goswami, too, said he was ready to demolish the encroachment on public land outside his house at 25/30,East Patel Nagar.

Records submitted by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi during the course of the Lokayukta hearing show the front boundary wall of his house encroaches three feet on public land.

“I have no objection in principle to the removal of the wall and shifting the boundary wall inwards by three feet as required,” Goswami said in the undertaking.

The two legislators submitted the undertakings as part of a case on illegal constructions by legislators and councillors that Lokayukta Manmohan Sarin has been hearing for more than a year now.

Both the legislators offered to demolish illegal constructions after initially contesting the charges on one pretext or the other.
