Kishori Rathore (53) does not want to return to Dahod again. His only son,Arpit, was killed when robbers struck his home and shop, which are located adjacent to a police chowki in Kankarkila village in Dhanpur,in January.
The police had arrested two of the robbers. But after four months,Rathores house was allegedly looted again, forcing him to leave home for Jhabua in Madhya Pradesh and stay with his in-laws.
The police, meanwhile, admit that Rathore was attacked twice despite being so close to the police chowki, but they say he is demanding compensation four months after the incident. It is true that Rathores house was looted twice. We cracked the case and arrested two persons. But his latest claim that his house was burgled again recently is baseless,as no such offence has been registered, said Superintendent of Police Vipul Aggarwal.
Rathore told The Indian Express over the phone from Jhabua that his house was robbed again last week and that he has not demanded any compensation. The police know who the culprit is. When we wanted to lodge a complaint, the Dhanpur police did not pay heed to the matter. Then I had to go to the superintendent of police, Rathore said. He added: My wife has been unwell since the time Arpit was stabbed to death after he refused to give in to their demands. After last weeks burglary,I do not dare to return home.
In the first burglary,a group of five had looted Rs 25,000 worth of goods. Two persons were arrested, and among them was one Ramesh Bhabhor.
Even after the arrest, stone pelting on my shop continued. The police never lodged a complaint, alleged Rathore in a letter to the superintendent of police.
