The Vadodara district collector has set a deadline of July 15 for Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL) to restore electricity supply in the villages of Naswadi Taluka of Vadodara district, after rains with strong winds disrupted power supply. The collector has also asked the Forest Department to clear the roads blocked by trees felled by the rains. The collector was on a visit to Naswadi to assess the situation. The collector has also asked for a survey to be conducted to ascertain the losses suffered by people due to the rains before July 15.
Rains wreaked havoc in Naswadi on Monday. The main transformer located in Naswadi town broke down, disrupting the electricity supply. Around 30 low tension and 11 high-tension feeders also broke down, affecting power supply in 210 villages of Naswadi taluka. The MGVCL has been able to restore supply in 140 villages, but it will take a week to restore power to the rest 70 villages.
The press statement issued by the government said the main transformer has also been restored. The data with the forest department shows that 57 trees fell in the forest area, while 72 fell in the residential areas of the taluka. The district administration has also rushed around 5 water tankers to provide drinking water.
Strong winds with heavy rains have also damaged property in the taluka. As per the survey, 984 houses were affected.
Crops have also been affected. The banana crop has been affected in Nannupura, Anandpuri, Vantda and Boreli villages. Farmers estimate losses up to Rs 40 lakh.
