The Congress may have done well in the state but, after a four-day review of the Lok Sabha results, the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) has decided to go for a major revamp.

During the review,AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh and UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi met each of the candidates individually and discussed shortcomings in their constituencies.

Party sources said as many as 22 candidates complained of sabotage by local units. Many candidates have complained of sabotage. It has been decided that strict action will be taken against those who opposed official candidates, said Joshi. We have tolerated it in the past, but keeping in mind the upcoming bypolls in as many as 13 Assembly seats, such opposition will not be tolerated, she added. Sources said the constituencies where candidates reported sabotage included Sitapur,Kanpur and Domariyaganj. In Kanpur and Domariyaganj, party MLAs were allegedly involved in the sabotage.

In Aligarh and Ghaziabad, candidates complained of non-cooperation by the UPCC office-bearers. Mathura candidate Manvendra Singh reported lack of cooperation from an MLA. In Sambhal,Amroha and Akbarpur, the local party units did not support the candidates, saying they were outsiders.

After the review,we have realised that there have been some obvious shortcomings and lapses during the election. In view of the Assembly elections three years down the line, organisational revamp has become absolutely necessary, said Joshi.

A detailed report on the review would be prepared within the next three days and action on those involved in anti-party activity would be decided within a week, she added.
