Congress leader Digvijaya Singh Saturday questioned the money spent on Anna Hazares agitation at Jantar Mantar, and the huge funding it had drawn.
If civil society people spent Rs 50 lakh for a four-day agitation at Jantar Mantar, then why are they after politicians telling them to meet the expenditure for contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections within a limit? Singh said, speaking at the Press Club here.
When we demanded that it should be brought out how much money was spent for organising Hazares hunger strike and who helped it financially,we were told that Rs 82 lakh was raised from the corporate sector, he said.
Singh said the job of finalising the draft of a Lokpal Bill cannot be left to only a few members of civil society and suggested the Bill should also include the corporate sector and NGOs. If Anna Hazare and his associates think that whatever they decide in the name of civil society is sacrosanct,it is not acceptable… Are politicians uncivilised? Cant they be members of civil society?
He also said it could not be expected that the draft finalised by the civil society members would be accepted as it was. How can anyone take away the rights of elected representatives?
Singh again repeated that Hazare was a nice man but was in the grip of some people who were using him. Asked if politicians were afraid of Hazare,he said not at all. I used to touch his feet and will do so in future also. But we will not accept his view that all politicians and voters are dishonest.
Ramdev must declare his trust property
Firing a fresh salvo against Baba Ramdev,Digvijay said he should make public his trusts property and demanded a probe to check if he possessed black money. How come Ramdev, who did not have the money to get the tyre of his bicycle repaired 10 years ago,has now turned the owner of a trust worth Rs 1,100 crore? he asked.
On Binayak Sens bail,he said: I am happy Sen,whom I know personally, has been granted bail.
