UT Chief Engineer S K Jaitley told Newsline: “It will take at least 10 days to repair the damage. We had filled the cracks in the roads just a few days ago. The material apparently did not bind well and with the continued onslaught of rain, potholes have cropped up.”
To the chagrin of daily commuters, traffic snarls were the order of the day. A road in Industrial Area Phase 1, near the CTU workshop, was closed to traffic to carry out repairs. But as the authorities neglected to put up a diversion sign in advance, the harried drivers traversed the full distance of the broken road only to realise it was closed.
Meanwhile, work to repair the Kishangarh bridge and Bapu Dham bridge, which had collapsed on Friday, continued till 7 pm today. “Water is also being drained out from houses in the colonies and slums,” said MC Chief Engineer S K Bansal.
