Chandigarh golfer Harendra Gupta, after bagging the biggest prize money of his career, is definitely on a high these days. The 27-year-old former caddie won the Mumbai Crompton Greaves Open last week at Mumbai Presidency Golf Club in a play-off with Delhi's Rashid Khan. He now heads to Delhi for the BILT Open to be played at Delhi Golf Club, starting from today. Gupta, who was leading on the first two days of the Mumbai Open, would aim to take the lead on the first day of the BILT open.
"The victory at Mumbai was perhaps the biggest win of my career. I am aiming for more success in the coming months. The BILT Open has the same prize money as Mumbai and most of the top-ranked golfers from all over the country are taking part in the championship. The course has been playing well and it was a good practice round for me at the Club today," shared Gupta, who pocketed more than Rs 16 lakh after he won the title at Mumbai.
The BILT open, which carries a prize money of Rs One crore, will be spearheaded by golfers like Jyoti Randhawa, defending champion Chiragh Kumar and Mithun Perera, who are the favourites in the event.
Gupta was the leader in the first two rounds at Mumbai but he slipped to third thereafter. He believes that a good start in Delhi would strengthen his case for the title. "I would aim for the top-five spots on the first day. Being in the top five at the start of a tournament eases things a lot and takes off the initial pressure. I have got a good start and it will help me in understanding the conditions in a better way. Jyoti and Chiragh have been playing well and they will pose a tough challenge to me," shared Gupta.
