When 14 year old Ubaid Mushtaq got injured after troops of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire on protestors in North Kashmir's Watergam village on Sunday evening, the loan of rupees one lakh that his family had taken to meet expenses to treat his father, Mushtaq Ahmad was on his mind.
Before the family could repay the loan, another tragedy hit them as Ubaid succumbed to injuries at SKIMS hospital early this morning.
Doctors treating Ubaid at SKIMS said that he was fired from a close range and was hit by several bullets in his abdomen and hips and died after battling with his life for four hours.
In the morning, when body of Ubaid arrived at his native village pall of gloom descended on in the neighborhood.
Thousands turned at the local grave yard to attend his funeral.
"For us his death is a great loss," said his 18 year cousin, Wajahat Ahmad who was also his close friend. "He (Ubaid) was a bright student and was class 9 student who always dreamed about good future for his family. Unfortunately, he died before fulfilling the dreams for his family."
Ahmad said that only an hour before Ubaid was hit by CRPF bullets, he meet him and discussed about the loan amount that family had taken to meet the medical expenses of his father. "He (Ubaid) was very as they had to repay rupees one lakh to the relatives and neighbors, as he was the older sibling in the family so he always used to think about the family affairs even though he himself was young," he said, adding that Ubaid was very perturbed with the amount
of loan and used to discuss with me how to repay the amount.
"Even he (Ubaid) was thinking to leave his studies to earn extra money along with his father," he said.
