In yet another twist in the PC Jewellers robbery case, Agra-based jeweller Bablu, whom the five robbers had reportedly sold most of the stolen gold and diamond jewellery, was recently found dead.
While Bablu’s name popped up during the interrogation of the two main accused, Sunil and Kala, the Agra police are still clueless about the persons who murdered him.
“A police team led by Station House Officer Inspector Aman Kumar visited the residence of Bablu in Pinahat district of Agra only to discover that he had been recently murdered,” said a senior police officer.
He added that the brother of Bablu was brought to Panchkula for interrogation but it did not help the police in solving the case.
“Perhaps, Bablu had not disclosed to anyone, including his family members, about the jewellery. Instead, he could have sold it to someone who might have later shot him dead. Bablu was a vital link in the case,” the officer said.
The deceased jeweller had reportedly paid Rs 7.40 lakh to the robbers and was to pay more in a day or so before he was murdered.
“Though we have recovered Rs 7.40 lakh from the accused, further recovery in the case is difficult at this point,” the police officer said.
Talking to Newsline, Sanjay Kumar SP (Rural), Agra, said: “Bablu was shot dead by two unknown persons. We have been trying hard to solve the case, but there has been no breakthrough till now. Besides, it is now that we have come to know that the jeweller was involved in a deal with the accused in the PC Jewellers case. However, till now we have not received any official communication from the Panchkula police in this regard”.
