A delegation of the Beijing Capital International Airport was in Delhi on a two-day visit to check the preparedness of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the run-up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
The delegation shared their experiences of hosting the Olympics and the challenges that Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) might face. With its upcoming terminal,T3,IGIA will be a splendid airport. The technical and construction parameters used here are very much like the Beijing project, Chen Guoxing, commander of the Chinese delegation, said.
I P Rao,DIALs Chief Executive Officer for Airport Development, visited the Beijing Airport eight months ago. We had invited our Chinese friends to review the preparedness of the Delhi Airport to host the Commonwealth Games and suggest changes,if any, Rao said.
As in the case of Beijing before the Olympics, there is very little time left for development projects to take shape here, while the span of construction is too large at the same time, Rao said.
Guoxing said the design of the Delhi Airport is energy-saving and environment-friendly. Though the time factor is very important, the pace of work here is very good, he said.
