Ahmedabad: : After learning a lesson from the Best Bakery case, the Gujarat Police have found a way to protect key witnesses and prevent them from turning hostile. In the chargesheet for the July 26 Ahmedabad serial blasts, the police have not named any of the witnesses and instead identified them as only star witnesses A, B, C, D to S.

The chargesheet filed by Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on November 11 cites a total of 511 and 248 witnesses in the two cases respectively. Ninteen of them have been referred to as star witnesses A to S. “This has been done to protect identities of these persons, so that they are not intimidated or tempted to backtrack from their statement. Moreover, since many of the accused are still at large, it is necessary to ensure safety of the witnesses. All star witnesses will be brought to the courtroom when the trial begins,” said a senior DCB officer.

This is how the poilce should work as professional and not reveal anything. Mumbai ATS is a different story as they are doing work as instructed by some politicians and maybe even have instructions from underworld. They are giving absurd quotes and selective leaks just to keep the hungry journalists at work. MEDIA is now the real culprit as they are not even talking anything concrete but playing up to the gallery. There is no country where a serving army officer will be held by civilian police and tortured. If he was involved then army should carry out proper investigation and court marshall him rather than make this a sensational case. Mumbai ATS are doing what ISI and Bangla groups wanted all along and the whole world is laughing at India and the agencies at the way things are handled.
