Ahmedabad RTO to be bifurcated next month

The Regional Transport Office in Ahmedabad is being bifurcated in a bid to reduce public inconvenience and save on time. A decision to this effect was taken last year.

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Ahmedabad is being bifurcated in a bid to reduce public inconvenience and save on time. A decision to this effect was taken last year. The new office is coming up at the CTM Cross Road.

Regional Transport Officer A B Gor said the split was necessary considering the sheer workload and rush. People came here from far off places,he said.

He described the Ahmedabad RTO as the largest vehicle registration office in Asia,Gor said 23 lakh vehicles have been registered here till date.

“It is necessary to bifurcate the jurisdiction in the larger public interest,” he said, adding that the state Roads and Buildings Department has been carrying out civil construction on the site.

He said wards in the eastern parts of the city as well as the rural areas in the district will come under the jurisdiction of the new RTO. These include Narol Transport Nagar (Naroda to Narol),Kalupur and Saraspur.

Gor said an assistant Regional Transport Officer will be deputed to the new office, which will have fresh staff as well as about 20 other staffers transferred from the Subhash Bridge office.

The new office will start functioning from next month.
