  • A day after an airhostess pressed charges of assault and sexual harassment against the commander and co-pilot of an Air India flight, Chairman & Managing Director Arvind Jadhav has involved himself in the probe.

Two crew members and the two pilots were questioned by the CMD this evening, said airline sources. The report of the inquiry, being conducted by senior officials of the airline will be out on Monday morning, said an Air India spokesperson.

The two crew members and two pilots have been de-rostered and will not be allowed to fly. Currently, the statements of all the four people involved in the case are being recorded.

Other crew members on board the flight IC 884, meanwhile, said the Commander of the flight, Ranbir Arora, had threatened to offload the entire crew at Karachi.

They also said the co-pilot, Aditya Chopra, had no involvement in the scuffle.

Sources said Arora has a history of getting involved in such scuffles. The Air India spokesperson said the management, in its inquiry, is not

looking into Arora’s history but investigating the specific incident at the moment.

The Air India spokesperson called the incident “a clear case of indiscipline” and said the airline will take stringent action on basis of the inquiry report against whosoever found guilty.

Sources in the Delhi Police said Amit Khanna, the flight purserinvolved, has now been made a witness, along with other crew members on board the IC 884.

As per the airhostess’s complaint, cases were registered against the pilots under IPC Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 34 (common intention), said Satindra Garg, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Operations).

RetiredBy: v.r.bala | 09-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward The Committee inquiring into the scuffle between Pilots and the cabin crew shall alsoinvite eye witness accounts of the passengers aboard the AI Sharjah-Delhi flight. Those of the executive/economy class passengers who witnessed the brawl at 30,000 ft shall come forward fearlessly/unmindful of inconvenience to themselves and insist on recording their version of the incident in the larger interest of all air passengers and citizens of India.
AI Management must behave toughBy: S L Gera | 05-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward It was a most shameful act which has spoiled the image of Air India. The fight between the pilot and the cabin crew in full view of the passengers of the flight should not be taken lightly. The Management should have stepped in soon after the flight landed in Delhi and before the matter reached the police. Let the law take its own course but the Management of Air India must act tough to maintain discipline. The staff involved in this shameless fight deserve no less punishment than termination.
Mid air scuffle in the flightBy: MS Ahluwalia | 05-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Captain of the aircraft is in command of the entire aircraft while it in flight. He is enthrusted with lot of responsibilities for the safe conduct of the flight. The case should be thoroughly investigated in confidence and Air India should take necessary action against the defaulters. The loose statements published in the media should be avoided.
Needs severe punishmentBy: SCV | 06-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward With this complete command goes the trust of responsible behaviour on part of the captain or it tantamounts to misuse of power given to discharge duties in a reliable manner. In this light, if Capt Arora has screwed up, he must get a more severe punishment. Fist-fight during a flight? Miserable. What did the guys think they were doing stunt for a cheap Bollywood movie? For heaven's sake.
There is No Discipline By: J.Mahanty | 05-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward No language is enough to condemn the incident inside the Cock Pit of the ill fated Sharja-Delhi flight. Not only the irresponsibel Pilots ( they had No business to indulge in misdemeanour inside the Cock Pit of an air borne Aircraft) shd be punished, but also the incident brings to light the widespread degeneration in work culture and discipline in Air India management. To top it all, the CEO (and his extended Family ) of the SICK airlines enjoyed over 160 FREE FLIGHTs, as per the News report!A sick airlines must cancel all free flights at all levels, till the Airlines makes profit after paying all financial charges and bank interests.

Why not sit back and enjoy the show - your safety is anyway compromised as you are already mid-air in an Air India flight that last saw a maintenance 10 years ago!
