AI flight makes emergency landing

A Lucknow-Mumbai Air India flight with 160 passengers on board made an emergency landing here Friday afternoon after the pilot reported a hydraulic failure.

A Lucknow-Mumbai Air India (AI) flight with 160 passengers on board made an emergency landing here Friday afternoon after the pilot reported a hydraulic failure. Flight AI 626,which took off from Lucknow at 1.40 pm,landed in Mumbai at 3.45 pm. An airport official said,“The pilot suspected a hydraulic failure and made request for an emergency landing to air traffic control.”

Birds rescued

MRA Marg police and NGOs People for Animals and Ahimsa Sangh raided Crawford Market Thursday evening and rescued 50 parrots,25 muniyas and two falcons put on sale. The birds have been sent to Thane SPCA and a Pune orphanage for rehab and release. The NGOs said some of the parrots and both falcons were only a few days old. Four shopkeepers and suppliers were arrested and remanded in police custody till May 19.

Anti-phone tower meet

A day after municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte challenged them to provide proof of cell phone tower radiation posing health hazards,south Mumbai activists,including actress Juhi Chawla,held an awareness programme in Malabar Hill Thursday. “Electromagnetic radiations are carcinogenic. With 4G technology,transmitters will emit higher radiations,” Chawla said.
