AIFF academy takes another hit,now Haryana can’t allot land

AIFF’s proposed “state-of-the-art” football academy that was shifted out of Goa due to land-acquisition problems to Haryana has been put on hold for the time being.

AIFF’s proposed “state-of-the-art” football academy that was shifted out of Goa due to land-acquisition problems to Haryana has been put on hold for the time being. After the AIFF’s emergency committee met on Wednesday here, acting president Praful Patel said the Haryana government has also failed to ensure them the land for the academy.

“The academy was first proposed for Goa but had to be taken out due to a land dispute and the sponsors agreed to shift it to Haryana. But the Haryana government failed to give us the land required for the academy,” Patel said, adding,“They (the Haryana government) had earlier assured us of the land for the academy, but it turned out to be an oral promise.”

‘Not backing out’
He,however, added that this didn’t mean the AIFF or the sponsors are backing out. “I had been in talks with Bharti (sponsors) recently and I had requested them not to lose interest. On their part they have also assured me that they will wait for the availability of land,” Patel added.

Goa refigured in AIFF’s scheme of things as he added that he was discussing the matter with the Goa government as well.

“I have been in touch with the Goa government to sort out the land issue. It is Goa which is going to miss an opportunity due to petty issues.”

Haryana Football Association general secretary Sunil Bhardwaj didn’t comment on the issue saying the matter was to be handled at a higher level and any football venture will be welcomed by the association while the Haryana government was not reachable.
