  • Air Works, the aviation maintenance firm that found itself in the middle of a controversy following claims of sabotage from the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), on Wednesday received an approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to carry out maintenance work for the Boeing 737 NG Series and its four variants ranging from the -600 to -900 Extended Range (ER) aircrafts. The Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) company currently operates an MRO facility out of Hosur near Bangalore and has a dedicated paint facility for narrow and wide-bodied aircrafts.

“There was this incident that occurred but it does not stop us from achieving the objectives that we have set out for ourselves,” said Ravi Menon, Director & Group Head Business Development, Air Works India. “We have already taken an initiative and have done an ATR for Kingfisher. This initiative of ours will make India self-sufficient in aviation maintenance facilities,” he added.

Last month the company found itself in the middle of a conspiracy theory wherein ADAG officials accused business rivals of Anil Ambani of plotting the helicopter sabotage incident. On April 23, two employees of the firm discovered mud and gravel in the fuel tank of ADAG owned Bell 412 helicopter following which ADAG officials alleged conspiracy. However, DGCA officials, who flew down from Delhi to investigate the matter, concluded that the incident would have caused minimum damage even if the aircraft had taken off.
