51-year-old was drunk and allegedly hugged the airhostess

A 51-year-old passenger of a Dubai-Mumbai flight of the Jet Airways was arrested on Tuesday, after an airhostess filed a complaint alleging that the passenger molested her midair.

The incident took place onboard the Jet Airways’ flight 9W541, when the passenger, Sarvaraj Pillai, allegedly hugged the airhostess while in an inebriated state. More ruckus was created in the flight, when Pillai misbehaved with other crew members after they interfered. The accused allegedly pulled another airhostess towards himself.

The airhostess and the rest of the crew members filed a complaint with the Sahar police against Pillai at 6 pm on Tuesday.

“We have arrested the passenger, and he was produced before the court On Wednesday. The court has remanded him to police custody for a day as he was not granted bail on Wednesday,” said senior inspector Dilip Patil of Sahar Police station.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed the incident. He said, “Jet Airways confirms that one of its passengers on the Dubai-Mumbai flight misbehaved with a cabin crew member last evening.” Eventually, it was the flight’s pilot who informed the security officials of the situation onboard at the Mumbai airport.

“The commander informed security officials at the airport and the passenger was handed over to the police,” the spokesperson said.

Pillai, a resident of Kerala, works as a supervisor in a Dubai-based electric company, Patil said.
