Airhostess feared for job: police

According to the police,stress may have caused her to end her life. She had reportedly voiced her concerns about her job to her boyfriend and father on Tuesday.  “On Tuesday,Anupama Acharya had missed her flight and became extremely tensed about giving explanation to her bosses on Wednesday. She was worried how would she justify her absence. She had rung up Samar Yejurvedi,her boyfriend,and told him about her fears. She feared she would be sacked for not reporting on duty. The recession scenario only worsened her fears of unemployment,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone X),K M M Prasanna.

In an attempt to divert her mind,Yajurvedi made plans of a movie and party but was unable to make Acharya shed her fears. “Acharya had spoken to her father on Tuesday and told him about having missed her flight. According to the father,she sounded very distressed and had even cried on the phone. Her father had reassured her that she was thinking in extremes and had told her to stop thinking about suicide,” said Prasanna.

Acharya’s father who arrived in the city on Wednesday wanted to perform his daughter’s last rites in Mumbai but Powai police dissuaded him as the girl’s mother and other relatives were yet to see the body. Parents of both Yejurvedi and Acharya were looking forward to the couple’s wedding. In fact,a few days before the incident,Acharya’s mother had plans to visit Mumbai to see her future son-in-law.

On Wednesday morning,Acharya jumped to her death from the fifth floor of her boyfriend’s building in Powai. According to the police,a drunken Acharya had insisted on having a smoke but after being told not to by Yejurvedi,she had angrily left the house and jumped off the stairwell.
