With this,GMADA began taking possession of the land along both sides of the 200 ft wide road from Sector 66-66-A to Chhat village up to National Highway-64 (Zirakpur to Patiala) leading to the international airport.

“This is GMADA’s property. Except for harvesting the standing crop, that too within a month, nothing else on the acquired land will be allowed to be taken away,” said Multani, while offering the landowners to accept their respective cash compensation on any working day from the GMADA office.

GMADA has already procured loan of Rs 1,200 crore to foot the compensation price and undertake external development of the Airport City, which would begin from Monday. It will soon float the scheme inviting applications for allotment of 3950 freehold residential sites ranging between 125-500 square yards (five marla to one kanal) at Rs 12,000 per square yard (Rs 3 lakh per marla).

The civic body also extended the land pooling scheme (LPS) for another 15 days. So far, owners of only 90 acres of land under acquisition have opted for the scheme.
