Two aircraft appeared to be heading towards another on Thursday night, but Mumbai airport authorities dismissed the incident as a result of confusion and ruled out any chance of a collision. Both aircraft were taxiing around the bay area at very slow speed. They belonged to Air India and Kingfisher. The incident took place at 11:30 pm,after the Air India flight from Nagpur landed and headed towards bay 11A. At this very bay,the Kingfisher Airlines aircraft was pushing back towards the runway, preparing for takeoff. An airport official said that the Kingfisher Aircraft was stopped on the taxiway as soon as the Air India aircraft was spotted on the opposite side. He added that the Air India pilot had delayed switching from tower frequency to ground frequency, hence the confusion. The Air India aircraft was eventually guided with a follow-me vehicle. A spokesperson for the airport did not comment, saying that there was no incident report from the airports end.
