Airports authority looks at central unit to control flow of air traffic

  • The AAI has not yet decided where the unit will be set up. “We would require a skeletal staff and this decision would depend on the available resources,” added the AAI official. The AAI believes this will bring down flight delays and congestion to a certain extent. This unit will not control the ATCs, just provide extra information.

    “It will also help in avoiding situations like ‘bunching’ where-in several flights reach the airspace of one terminal within minutes of each other. The ATC is then left with no option but to make them hover over the airport,” added the official.
