Ajmal Kasab-linked bomb threat notice found in Ghaziabad court restroom, cops in tizzy

A notice, which was stuck to a restroom wall in Ghaziabad court complex, created panic on the premises on Tuesday.

The handwritten notice, which was discovered by lawyers, said "three time-bombs would go off on the premises after 1 pm, unless the entrance to the court was renamed Shaheed Ajmal Kasab Dwar."

The state police and the Police Armed Constibulary immediately conducted a thorough search of the court complex and premises, but no bombs were found, police said.

"Lawyers who visited the ground-floor restroom of the court saw the notice around 10 am and alerted us. We immediately contacted the state bomb disposal squad and deployed police personnel to sanitise the premises. However, no bombs were found, and we assured lawyers that it was safe to function," a senior police officer said.

Police said more personnel were posted at the complex in view of the threat. The Ghaziabad court continued to function as normal, despite several lawyers, some of whom were named in the notice, excusing themselves from work.

According to police, the notice begins by calling Kasab "garib and majbur" (poor and helpless) and goes on to say that he was a "shaheed" (martyr). It then asks for the lawyers of the Ghaziabad court — the names of ten lawyers were mentioned — to name the main entrance of the court as Shaheed Ajmal Kasab Dwar, failing which three time-bombs would go off on the court premises after 1 pm.

The notice also threatened to kidnap the daughters of the ten lawyers.

The writer signs off with the words "Pakistan Zindabad" and "Shaheed Kasab Amar rahe", while threatening that more bombs will be placed in courts across the country until operation "Shaheed Kasab" was successful.

A senior lawyer of the Ghaziabad court, whose name was mentioned in the notice, said: "I am thankful that no incident actually took place, but the notice also threatens my family and so I will ask for police protection. I hope the perpetrator is caught soon."
