Al Qaeda would use Pak's N-weapons if it were in a position to do so, said Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, a leader of the terror group.

If it were in a position to do so, Al Qaeda would use Pakistan's nuclear weapons in its fight against the United States, a top leader of the group said in remarks aired on Sunday.

Pakistan has been battling al Qaeda's Taliban allies in the Swat Valley since April after their thrust into a district 100 km (60 miles) northwest of the capital raised fears the nuclear-armed country could slowly slip into militant hands.

"God willing, the nuclear weapons will not fall into the hands of the Americans and the mujahideen would take them and use them against the Americans," Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, the leader of al Qaeda's in Afghanistan, said in an interview with Al Jazeera television.

Abu al-Yazid was responding to a question about US safeguards to seize control over Pakistan's nuclear weapons in case Islamist fighters came close to doing so.

"We expect that the Pakistani army would be defeated (in Swat) ... and that would be its end everywhere, God willing."

Asked about the group's plans, the Egyptian militant leader said: "The strategy of the (al Qaeda) organisation in the coming period is the same as in the previous period: to hit the head of the snake, the head of tyranny -- the United States.

"That can be achieved through continued work on the open fronts and also by opening new fronts in a manner that achieves the interests of Islam and Muslims and by increasing military operations that drain the enemy financially."

The militant leader suggested that naming a new leader for the group's unit in the Arabian Peninsula, Abu Basir al-Wahayshi, could revive its campaign in Saudi Arabia, the world's top oil exporter.

    ... contd.

To PakiBy: Gmeyer | 23-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Hi Paki,I admire your arrogance. You are living on a piece of land what was Hindustan. It is for stupid leaders at the time of independence that we kept loads of Muslims in India, whereas you lot in Pakitstan killed all Hindus and Sikhs or sent them out of Pakistan. So much for our love of brotherhood for you guys that our future generations are going to pay for it. We don't want any war with anyone. We want to live peacefully and progress as a great nation. I feel, India is a great tolerent nation and doesn't need a bully neighbour that lives on money given to them in begging. Here you are again - begging more land. When are you going to stand on your own feet - work hard, give few generations a real pride - not guns and bombs. Give those little ones in your country some hope for future - not Al Qaida.
n-aBy: alamzaib | 23-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward 15000 Taliban with no public support VS 180 million Pakistani. the only issue in killing them is that they are in forest covered mountains and have built a network of caves and stuff. Have loads of money coming in from Afghanistan Drugs. we will get them eventually.
Shedding crocodile tearsBy: Scaria Varghese | 23-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Al Qaeda’s threat to use Pak N-weapons against the US shouldn’t be taken as an empty threat with Pakistan’s fledgling democracy is on borrowed times-the Taliban is berating down her neck. My use of the word fledgling intentionally because democracy is not deep rooted in Pakistan, unlike in India. Over the years democratic experiments have tried umpteen times in Pakistan and have failed due to a clinched fist military brass thwarted them. Should we Indians sympathise with Pakistan or, for that matter, America’s predicament? Not at all, all these monstrosities- Taliban and Al Qaeda-are the creation of Pakistan aided and abetted by America. Mujahideen was aided and abetted by Pakistan and America to expel the Soviet Union from Afghanistan. Then Osama bin Laden was a friend of America-the enemy’s enemy a friend. He then metamorphosis into a terrorist and created the Al Qaeda to bit the hand that fed him-America. Should we concern? Yes, we should. Nuclear weapons will be falling into the hands of the terrorists and they in turn holding the rest of the world to ransom are a real possibility. America turned a blind eye and let Pakistan to use terror as weapons against our men and women in uniforms, not to mention innocent men and women in Kashmir and rest of India. My heart bleeds for me when America sheds crocodile tears about terrorism.
