London, November 20: : In a survey carried out, about 40 per cent of heavy boozers have admitted that they lie to GPs about the amount they have had to drink.

As per the research, those who drink more than double the recommended daily limit of alcohol, which is three to four units for men and two to three for women, were almost 10 times more likely to fib.

The survey carried out by YouGov on 1,429 adults showed that 12 per cent of heavy drinkers lied to partners, 13 per cent mislead friends and 19 per cent did not own up to colleagues.

It further revealed that almost one in five even deluded themselves, and that men were more likely to underplay the amount they drink than women.

“People find it embarrassing but, as GPs, we are here to help,” the Daily Express quoted Professor Steve Field, of the Royal College of General Practitioners, as saying.
