Alka Murder: Accused remanded to jail custody

Ashif alias Malli,the main accused in the Alka Pandey murder of September 16,was on Monday remanded to judicial custody after the expiry of his seven-day police remand.

Ashif alias Malli,the main accused in the Alka Pandey murder of September 16,was on Monday remanded to judicial custody after the expiry of his seven-day police remand. The police could not effect any recoveries during this period. However,officials claimed that they were working on the leads that have emerged from Malli’s interrogation.

Malli was produced before the CJM courtand later remanded to jail custody.

Police sources said that during this period,Malli was taken to Delhi,where Alka’s car was supposed to have been hidden by his associate Sufiyan. “We have not been able to recover the car as it is with Sufiyan,who is still untraceable. However,Malli has provided some clues on which we are working,” said an official associated with the investigations.

The official added that Alka’s mobile phone,which the police wanted to recover at Malli’s instance,too was with Sufiyan. “It appears that Alka’s mobile phone,which she used to remain in touch with Malli,had fallen in her car when she was murdered and it may be in possession of Sufiyan. However,we are not sure if the phone is still in the possession of Sufiyan,” the official added.

Alka,wife of a retired colonel,was murdered allegedly by Malli and Sufiyan in Bamrauli area of the city on September 16. Two days later,burnt body of a woman was recovered in Magrahan village of Rae Bareli. However,the police there had disposed of the body after post-mortem even without establishing its identity. It was later identified as that of Alka by her brother.
