All eyes on India

  • With no clear winner in sight, the general election is also being keenly watched by other countries. The US Administration has granted “additional resources” to its mission here for preparing and sending regular reports, while envoys of several European countries are undertaking extensive travel ahead of each poll phase. In fact, political counsellors of EU countries in India have a “fun wager” underway on who comes out with the most accurate prediction. Last heard, a growing number of diplomats were betting that both the Congress and BJP will fall below their current tally in the Lok Sabha, opening up the possibility of a Third Front. But then, everyone adds the caveat that all went wrong last time.
