  • Running a marathon is considered to be one of the biggest tests of human fortitude. And as Mumbai braces for the sixth edition of its most celebrated event, less than two months after being hit hard by the 26/11 carnage, the tagline ‘Feel the spirit’ aptly fits the bill. Kenyan John Kelai, who will attempt to complete a hat-trick of wins at the Mumbai Marathon 2009, leads the pack of 2,500 runners, which includes 2,350 Indian entries, in the 42.195 km showcase event, with prize money of $ 31,000 up for grabs.

While a 10,000-strong field will vie for the $ 1,150 winner’s cheque in the Half Marathon, where runners will have to cover a distance of 21.097 km. The event will also provide the customary star-gazers with plenty to write home about, as they will get to see the likes of John Abraham and Milind Soman. The Dream Run will be more than just any Sunday jog for the celebrities, who will be running for various causes.

Besides the long list of film-stars, a number of corporate honchos and socialites led by regulars Anil Ambani and Rahul Bose will also add to the rich flavour of the event. In all, a staggering 35,000 participants will make their presence felt in the various race categories, with a total prize money of $ 250,000.
