All in a Night’s Work

The cast comprises “the item boy of the year” Naseeruddin Shah,who leads the posse of policemen,Atul Kulkarni as Bhaskar Sardesai who feels he could’ve been a big playback singer but ended up as a man in uniform,Kay Kay Menon as Albert Pinto,an on-the edge cop,and Ravi Kishen,a dedicated policeman as Shakti Chinappa. “Together,the four are a riot,” says Shetty. Chaalis Chauraasi refers to the “leading lady of the film”,which just happens to be a police van,with the registration number MH-02-A- 4084.

“The film has these four on a mission of their own. It goes hilariously wrong,and turns out to be one adventurous night ride,” says Shetty about the film,which has been produced by Maask Entertainment Pvt Ltd in association with Filament Glo (India) Pvt Ltd.

With a real police patrol van zipping across at night,the cops are actually on a stake out and are working undercover. “I could have taken four starry actors,but I chose this specific cast because they fit the bill and bring immense humour and energy with them,” says Shetty,who adds how,during their research,he joined real cops on duty for a night patrol. “Every night,four different cops get on a patrol van,yet they meet like old buddies and watch each other’s back,” says Shetty.

Mumbai at night,dark alleys,gangsters,guns and cops,the film has all the masala,including three item songs. In fact,there’s one by the Pakistani singer,Hassan Jahangir,the ’80s singer who gave us Hawa Hawa.
