The BJP has prabharis (in-charges) for states, and then there are prabharis for elections. Arun Jaitley was made the Gujarat election prabhari but the state was under the charge of former general secretary and Narendra Modi confidant Om Mathur. With Karnataka occupying the centrestage, the party hopes that Jaitley’s Midas touch works again, and he has been camping there as election prabhari. Senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu, who thinks he has a personal stake in the party’s “gateway to south”, too, is staying put in Bangalore. The only leader missing in action there is Yashwant Sinha, the BJP leader in charge of Karnataka!
