During the commissioner’s visit, several tubewell operators complained that councillors were delaying their salaries by not signing the approval letter on time. According to rules, the operators can get their salaries only after the area councillor signs the approval letter. The Mayor issued a letter on Thursday that from now onwards, subdivisional officers, executive engineers and junior engineers would be authorised to sign the letter. The role of councillors has come under the scanner with the allegation.
