  • The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today dismissed the writ petition seeking a stay on the arrest and quashing of FIR against Abdul Wahid, former Managing Director of UP Minorities Finance and Development Corporation Limited.

The petitioner, also the then deputy secretary of UP Backward Class Welfare Department, was accused of making certain appointments in the department despite a specific ban being in place with respect to fresh appointments.

He was also accused of making payment to these employees without the approval of the state government.

An FIR under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of IPC was lodged against him at Hazratganj police station on February 5, 2008. The Bench comprising Justices Abdul Mateen and Satish Chandra directed the police to expedite the inquiry in the allegation. Since the petitioner retired in 2008, the court said in case he surrenders and seeks bail, the same should be considered and decided expeditiously.
