Opposition workers blocked the National Highway 2 in Ballabhgarh on Thursday morning, alleging that the counting of votes at the Aggarwal Dhramshala was rigged.
Sharda Rathod, the Congress candidate who won from Ballabhgarh Assembly constituency, was leading since the counting began. This led to largescale protest from the other candidates, who alleged that an electronic voting machine had its seal tampered with and the signatures of presiding officers and polling agents on several other machines did not match.
Protesting against this,Chandra Bhatia (HJC),Ompal Tonger (BSP),Anita Goswami (INLD),Surender Tewatia (BJP),Krishan Arya (SP) and an Independent candidate,Bal Kishan, along with other party members and supporters sat on a dharna, blocking the highway for around 30 minutes. But when they learnt that the counting was still on,they marched towards the centre and tried to force their way in.
When policemen at the centre tried to prevent them, some miscreants started pelting stones. But we managed to bring the situation under control, said the police commissioner,Faridabad,P K Aggrawal.
A few of the police personnel have received minor injuries and have been discharged after first aid.
The Faridabad police are yet to make an arrest or register a case. We have been busy with the election but action will certainly be initiated, said the police chief.
