Allies push Cong buttons

The Congress parliamentary party would meet to select its leader, who would be the chief minister.

The Congress parliamentary party would meet on Sunday to select its leader, who would be the chief minister. Going by indications, opposition leader Oommen Chandy looks to emerge as the parliamentary party leader, although K Karunkaran’s son Muraleedharan gaven a new twist to the exercise, saying KPCC chief Ramesh Chennithala too was eligible for the post. The meeting would be attended by AICC general secretary Madhusudan Mistry.

As feared by the Congress, the IUML and the Kerala Congress have aired signals that they would form a pressure group within UDF. While the Congress tally is 38,the IUML-Kerala Congress combine is 29. Triggering speculation,IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty and KC (M) chief K M Mani had a closed-door meeting in Kochi on Saturday,a day before the UDF is to meet on government formation.

Kunhalikutty after the meeting said his party expects to get due share in government formation without bargaining.
