Nearly a year after the Delhi serial blasts, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police is going to file a chargesheet against a suspected member of Indian Mujahideen (IM) Mohammad Akbar Ismail Choudhary in a day or two, according to sources.
Choudhary was allegedly a member of the media wing of the outfit and was responsible for sending out ‘terror emails’ to TV channels after a string of explosions that occurred in Delhi, Surat, Ahmedabad and Bangalore.
Choudhary was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) along with 14 other IM members between September 28 and October 5 last year from Pune, Mumbai and several places in Uttar Pradesh. Choudhary was brought to Delhi by the Special Cell on June 11 this year.
An official said, “Choudhary played an important role in sending mails after the blasts in various cities. He was actively involved in the Delhi blasts and was in touch with Mohammad Atif Ameen, who was shot dead in the September 19 encounter at Batla House, and Mansoor Asghar Peerbhoy in Mumbai. He used to recce areas with unsecured WiFi connections. He was entrusted with the task of sending mails, along with others, and had collected the email IDs of all TV channels”.
The supplementary chargesheet, which will be filed by the police in a day or two, will the eighth chargesheet filed in the Delhi blasts case.
Sources said Choudhary has been charged under various sections, including the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosive Substances Act and the Information Technology Act.
