When a robust game like cricket can get glamourous with cheerleaders, why not the life style sport of horse racing have the credit of inspiring artistes? While the relationship between the sport and art might come as a surprise to many, a closer look brings out a different picture that not only presents art and sport as complementary to each other, but also incomplete without each other. For example, we have the cult game of cricket that not only had a complete makeover with 20-20 innings, but also boasted of art and glamour with pretty cheerleaders moving in synchronized fashion at every hit of the ball. As the race season comes to an end in Pune, the photo album shows that the sport was accompanied with lot of art related activity – a few complemented it, while others were inspired from it.
Vivek Jain, president, RWTIC marketing, says, “Art has always been a part of the races, given the reason that both are lifestyle things. While horseracing is a lifestyle sport, art has always been there for connoisseurs. Music, painting and photography has always been a part of the sport. The venue and the ambience at the racecourse also makes it suitable for various art forms and leaves a lot of scope. Both are complementary to each other -- music also provides a festive atmosphere to the event.”
When asked about the process of selection of genre keeping in mind the environment at racecourse, member of band Full Monty, Montini Vaz, says, “Music, especially in parties and such occasion is only for entertainment of the listeners. However, a careful selection is important. While playing for racecourse, we keep in mind the high level of energy and excitement involved in the game, so we have to keep the music subtle. And towards the end we can belt out some foot-tapping number, which could be identified as the celebration the victory of the winner or the closing note of a good party.”
