In a major upset, Aman from Rohtak managed a shock 21-15, 21-18 win over sixth seed Ketan in the boys' U-19 singles category on the second day of the 46th Haryana State Senior Open Badminton Championship being played at Sector 3 Sports Complex. Playing a controlled game, Aman played some good shots to win the first game 21-15. He carried his form into the second game also where he registered a 21-18 win to storm into the next round.
In another match of the day, Akshit Mahajan of Panchkula rallied to a 21-10, 21-15 win over Rohit of Bhiwani to move into the next round. The Panchkula youngster won the first game easily with a 21-10 margin before claiming the second and final game 21-15 to book his berth in the next round. It was an easy going for another Panchkula player, Ravinder, as he ended the challenge of Pragun Jain of Faridabad with a 21-12, 21-14 victory. It was an easy start for the Panchkula shuttler as he raced away to claim the first game with a 21-12 margin before winning the second and final game 21-14, to march into the next round.
In the girls' category, Panchkula's Charvi stamped her authority over Deepika of Sonepat with a 21-12, 21-14 win in the girls' U-19 singles event. The Panchkula youngster made full use of the familiar conditions at the Panchkula complex as she claimed the first game 21-12. She pressed hard and managed to win the second game 21-14, to advance further in the tournament.
In another match in the same category, Mehak of Panchkula ended the challenge of Pragti of Amb with a 21-12, 21-12 win. Mehak claimed the first game 21-12 and played in similar fashion in the second game also to scrape through into the next round with a 21-12 victory.
